This is a picture of a Poor Man's candle holder and coffee pot. The Poor man's candle base is full of sand, so it does not tip over very easy. I then make a coffee pot to hold the lantern so it will not break when traveling. I used a furnace filter as the buffer to the glass globe. I claim the filter looks like horse hair, so it kind of period. The lamp is actually a Bask(sp) Sheep Herders candle from Spain. The tinner I got if from, said that the man's great grandfather came over to America around 1810. So it is period, just from a different country.
