Description : The lantern is a Bask sheep herders lantern. It came to America from Spain in 1837, according to the guy who's lantern I repaired. The base is full of sand, so it is hard to knock over. Notice the little wires that hold the glass at the bottom, they also let a little air in. You can swing this lantern around your head two times and it will not go out. However, if you try to swing it three times, it will suck the flame out. Naturally I only demonstrate the two swing demo. Also worth noting, is that the handle is long, and with a cap on top, you will not burn your fingers when you carry it. In this case, the top that fits into the coffee pot, was made to stabilize the lantern. Normally there is just a round disc that acts as a heat shield.
The cup has an internal bottom, in that the bottom is not bent around the outside of the cup.
The coffee pot, was originally designed to be a container for the lantern. However, it made sense to add the spout and a handle.
